Van Gogh was never economical with paint. But after he was introduced to the flower still life's by Adolphe Monticelli (1824-1886) in June 1886, he went a step further. This French artist painted colourful bouquets with thick paint and expressive brush strokes in shades of red, brown, orange, green, black, and ivory.
This still life depicts the lavish way in which he cast his flowers onto the canvas. The thick paint and distinct brush strokes are also clearly visible on the quilt cover. The way the flowers are depicted gives this quilt cover its striking look, while the colour combinations lend it an Oriental feel. This quilt cover looks especially attractive in a bedroom with a classic design.
The quilt cover is made of 100% cotton sateen. The cover has a chic sheen and the sateen weave makes it feel very smooth. More threads are used for a sateen weave and the material is woven much tighter. Cotton sateen is made of 100% high quality breathable cotton and is moisture-absorbent.
